What are automatic sliding door sensors?

Automatic sliding door sensors are popular devices utilizing the most modern technology available to help control access to public entrances to large, commercial, or caproate buildings. They can help make entrance areas be less congested with pedestrian foot traffic by automating the opening and closing of a building’s or a room’s entrance doors. Automatic sliding door sensors can be used for safety to prevent unauthorized access to a building, or specific restricted room or area, as well as prevent theft by stopping a potential thief from exiting a building or room without paying for merchandise or obtaining approval to leave. Sliding door sensors are usually installed directly into an automatic sliding door system to help control the flow of people in and out of a building or room.

What types of automatic sliding door sensors are there?

Automatic sliding door sensors come in several different variations, but one of the most popular choices for controlling and simplifying access to a building or room is with a sensor linked to a sensor sliding glass door. Glass doors look sleek and are robust and durable which makes them an excellent choice for automatic sliding door sensor exteriors. Most automatic sliding door sensors work through employing an optical or motion detection sensor that activates the opening and closing of the door, or doors, by sensing movement, such as a person, approaching the door. The sensors will then communicate this movement to have the sliding doors open. Instead of motion sensor sliding doors, some buildings may also use pressure plates to sense and activate the opening and closing of the sliding doors. A pressure plate sensor usually activates the sliding doors based on weight being put onto the sensors (such as a person standing in front of the door). However, optical and motion sensors seem to be more widely used today. Most motion sensors use microwave pulses as their main technology to detect movement. These pulses can accurately pick up on nearby moving objects to help activate the opening of the doors. Some sliding door sensors however a technology of use passive infrared (PIR) sensors, which picks up on temperature changes near the door (such as when a person’s body approaches).

How much do automatic sliding door sensors cost?

While automatic sliding door sensor prices can range from $100 on the lower end to $1,000 or more for more high-end and more efficient technology equipped sensors, motion sensors with passive infrared technology seem to be typically more affordable than motion sensors with microwave technology because those may be able to cover larger areas.
